HR Business Consultant - Transmission

The HR Business Consultant acts as an internal management consultant and is responsible for providing HR solutions/services in support of the statewide Transmission organization for Alabama Power Company (APC). This includes delivering outstanding consultation and human resource initiatives to help the organization achieve its business goals.
The HR business consultant will be a strategic business partner with the leadership team, support strategic HR initiatives and contribute to the customers business goal achievement. The successful candidate will not only have a solid background as an HR generalist, but will also have demonstrated capacities for consulting with managers & executives, facilitating high level discussions, and supporting a timely and cost-effective strategy approach to delivering human resources programs. Experience with performance management, leadership development, succession & development planning, organization effectiveness and change management are vital to this position.
The position will be located in the APC headquarters in Birmingham and will include overnight travel to other areas statewide as well as to Atlanta. There are no direct reports for this position.
Job Responsibilities:

Ensure successful implementation and delivery of Human Resources products and services to a client group.

Ensure that Human Resources strategic and tactical initiatives are effectively executed.

Consult with management of client organization on Human Resources issues.

Maintain a work environment that emphasizes professional excellence, teamwork, customer satisfaction, and personal growth.

Ensure the transfer of skills in HR processes to line management.

Provide a high level of customer service that is cost effective and value added.
Job Requirements:
Education & Work Experience:

Bachelors degree preferred. Advanced degree and/or PHR/SPHR certification a plus.

Strong experience in HR generalist/consulting role with a customer, working with a broad range of employees (covered and non-covered) preferred.

Consulting experience in performance management, leadership development, succession & development planning, compensation, employee relations, workforce planning & strategic staffing, project management, organizational effectiveness principles, metrics, and organizational change.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Ability to align HR strategic initiatives with business plans

Demonstrated technical knowledge of Human Resources is required (Employee Relations, Compensation, Disability Management, Labor Relations, Talent Acquisition, Performance Management, Organizational Design, and Compliance.)

Consulting, critical thinking, facilitation, negotiation, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills desired

Must possess comprehensive knowledge of HR policies and practices and understand their application in solving client needs

Ability to diplomatically offer objective and creative solutions to client issues.

Ability to respect and maintain confidential and sensitive information.

Ability to champion and influence change and a willingness to take risks.

Ability to build effective client relationships adapting approach/style to the clients needs.

Champion HR initiatives with client groups.

Outstanding communication and facilitation skills; listening, oral, written, and presentation.

High level of personal initiative and responsibility.

A flexible and adaptable approach to consulting services.

Ability to understand and provide guidance regarding the companys compliance efforts with respect to human resources practices, policies, and regulatory requirements.
