Store Sales Management (Manager in Training)

As a Mens Wearhouse Store Manager you are expected to be a coach and a store selling and operational director. You must facilitate the consistent performance of the appropriate benchmark selling behaviors and team selling. Creating a positive, high quality work environment is critical. As the store operational director you must ensure that your inventory is controlled, your tailor shop well managed, and all other operations in your store run smoothly.Maintaining a High Quality Work Environment
  • Ensure a high quality work environment for all employees.
  • Serve as a role model to all store team members and provide enthusiastic motivational leadership. Project a positive attitude and friendly demeanor.
  • Coach, observe and facilitate the selling process with all retail and tuxedo rental customers.
  • Continuously observe the work performance of your team and supply immediate feedback to all employees when expectations are not met and positive reinforcement when they are. Consistently recognize good performance and reward accordingly.
  • Personally deal with employee performance concerns and disciplinary problems in your store.
  • Ensure all employees adhere to all policies stated in the Employee Handbook and other Company practices and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with the Safety in the Workplace Policy and all safety guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with the Anti Discrimination and Harassment Policy; immediately report any complaints or concerns under that policy to your Regional Manager and Employee Relations.
  • Regularly communicate with your Regional Manager. Promptly report to them and the Employee Relations Department any employee concerns, requests, incidents or accidents, including any concerns or complaints (whether stated or observed) arising under the Anti Discrimination and Harassment policy and no retaliation policy.
Driving Sales/Volume
  • Ensure your store consistently demonstrates the benchmark selling techniques. Continuously encourage and participate in team selling.
  • Assist consultants in setting, meeting and maintaining personal volume and statistical sales goals. Monitor sales and provide feedback to selling personnel.
  • Ensure Wardrobe Consultants and other Team Members strive to build long-term, quality relationships with customers.
  • Guide Wardrobe Consultants to understand customers wardrobe needs, expand customers awareness to their entire wardrobe needs, and show customers appropriate product to meet those needs.
  • Ensure all store employees timely follow through on all customer commitments.
Coaching and Directing Retail and Rental Operations
  • Ensure all employees review and apply the position specific training materials in StarCast and Sharehouse.
  • Complete, apply and enforce all training contained in the Management 101 Modules on Sharehouse and other training posted there and in StarCast, including the Suits High Benchmark Selling Behaviors.
  • Conduct interviews and make recommendations to multi-unit managers regarding hiring, discipline, promotions, reviews, pay increases, and terminations. Ensure all new hires timely complete all required new hire forms and view StarCast training modules. Assist in the training of all new hire employees.
Work Habits
  • Become involved in all customer complaints, returns, exchanges, and returns for alterations that occur while you are in the store. Ensure all customer complaints are resolved immediately or as soon as possible if not remedied during store visit.
  • Handle all Company assets according to procedures such as cash, checks and credit cards. Ensure proper deposit of all money received on Companys behalf, and properly and timely deposit in bank. Secure your store through proper closing, alarm procedures and timely response to alarm calls.
  • Properly control inventory by following all region standards for reporting stock counts and inventory discrepancies to your Regional Manager.
  • Comply with Merchandising to Sell and Rent guidelines and ensure proper merchandise layout. Ensure team compliance with all merchandise transfer procedures.
  • Monitor and react to merchandise needs. Know scale levels for your store and recommend changes where needed. Ensure price changes, markdowns and sale set-up are completed accurately and on time, including but not limited to ensuring that all product is properly ticketed, matches the POS and matches any and all pertinent signage at all times.
  • Record all merchandise transfer discrepancies and address with the Inventory Control Department, the Merchandise Department and your Regional Manager.
  • Practice store awareness and make sure all team members are aware of shortage problems.
  • Adhere to all audit procedures and react to problems on a timely basis.
  • Maintain proper staffing at all times, especially during peak hours or periods.
  • Ensure store hours are posted and followed.
  • Maintain a clean and neat store.
  • Monitor employees time worked and timecard records to ensure that time cards accurately reflect all hours worked. Ensure all employees comply with meal period requirements and clock in and out appropriately.
  • Regularly conduct weekly (Saturday) store meetings covering selling techniques and merchandise knowledge. Invite all employees to attend. Attend all zone and store meetings, training courses and store inventory.
  • Direct your assistant manager to assist you in appropriate operational and coaching tasks.
  • Respond timely and appropriately to all requests and directives from the corporate office and your Regional Manager and Zone VP/AVP.
  • Portray a professional, well-groomed appearance and maintain good personal hygiene.
  • Complete any other tasks assigned by your Regional Manager, VP or AVP.
 Requirements 
 Physical and Mental Requirements  
  • Interpret, follow and execute detailed instructions. Learn, apply and retain Company policies and procedures; merchandise and selling information
.
  • Solve employee and customer problems containing numerous variables and be able to relay sensitive or complex information and obtain consensus from diverse groups.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally all written and verbal instructions with coworkers and customers.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced and competitive sales environment.
  • Read, count and write to accurately complete documentation and inventory control. Carry out simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division or be able to perform these with a calculator.
  • Bend down and squat to locate and pick up merchandise located at ground level and to assist customers put on shoes; bend down and crouch to mark pants for alterations.
  • Lift arms and reach over the head to hang or take merchandise off racks or place on customer.
  • Operate a computer and cash register, including manual tasks such as reaching across the counter to exchange monies with customer, grasping, pulling, pushing, and folding merchandise to wrap customer purchases.
  • Stand and walk for the majority of work shift, sometimes as long as twelve hours per day, five or sometimes six days per week.
  • Frequent (at least 2/3 of the work day) bending and twisting at neck and waist, crouching and squatting, reaching above and below shoulder height, grasping, pulling, pushing and fine manipulation with both hands, lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • See and distinguish between fabric patterns and colors.
  • Work at least 40 hours per week, which may include working any of the hours the store is in operation, at least two closing shifts per week, Saturdays, and six days per week during peak periods.
