  • This position is located in the Business Office under the Transcription Unit at the VISN 23 Minneapolis VA Health Care System. 
  • Interpret and transcribe physician and clinician medical dictation.
  • Analyze reports for accuracy and meaning.
  • Edit text and modify for inconsistent, improbable and doubtful terminologies in comparison to patient medical record
  • Assign and prioritize dictation
  • Operate Nuance/Dictaphone transcription and dictation equipment
  • Upload transcription to patient EHR
  • Identify appropriate note titles and templates
  • Verify patient information

GS-5 Qualifications

Specialized Experience: 1 year of Specialized Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to perform successfully the duties of a Medical Data Technician, and that is typically in or related to the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least GS-4 grade level.

Examples of Specialized experience are: working in a hospital or office setting transcribing dictation.

NOTE: Evidence of specialized experience must be supported by detailed documentation on your resume. Also provide work experience information such as hours per week, salary and starting/ending dates of employment (month and year format) to establish one (1) full year of Specialized Experience.

Substitution of Education for Experience: Successfully completed a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelors degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited community college, junior college, or college or university. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)

OR

Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and specialized experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)
