The Program Support Clerkis located within the Prosthetic Treatment Center in Minneapolis, MN, part ofVISN 23. The position is part of a team providing patient care services andsupport to an adult, veteran population with specialized needs.

The Duties of a Program Support Clerk include but are notlimited to the following:
Receives all incoming general telephone calls, inquiries,and delivered mail; Sorts, distributes, and redirects requests andcorrespondences to the appropriate areas and individuals; Greets and determinesthe purpose of the visit from a diversity of publics; Works with private andconfidential patient records and other critical or sensitive information;Participates fully with quality assurance and continuous improvement activitiesand regulatory agencies; Apprises the Supervisor of all activities that maypositively or negatively affect the overall efficiency of the service or affectthe delivery of quality care; Recognizes and reports deviations from acceptedand established procedures; Interprets and verifies provider orders inaccordance with scheduling guidelines; Schedules, cancels, and reschedulespatients appointments and/or consults; Monitors both inpatient and outpatientappointments for the laboratory; Performs clerical-level work to support theacquisition of supplies and services to meet the purchase, rental, or leaseneeds of an organization; Determines needs by accurately interpreting basiceligibility and medical entitlement from patient records and medical consults;Performs a full range of standard clerical and basic supply assignments.

GS-4 Experience Requirement:
One year of general experience which hasequipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties ofthe position. General experience could be experience in general office settingor clerical work experience. This can include computerized data entry andretrieval, receiving and relaying incoming and outgoing phone calls, answeringroutine inquiries from customers, review of forms for accuracy andcompleteness, following guidelines to complete tasks, and similar duties.

Applicants may substitute education for theexperience required for the GS-04 level.
GS-4 Education Requirement: 2 years of education above high school. This educationmust have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technicalschool, junior college, college or university. In order to substitute educationfor experience, applicants MUST PROVIDE TRANSCRIPTS.

Applicants may combine Education and Experience toqualify for GS-4 level positions: Applicantsmay also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-04 level.To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned(when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that youearned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Addthe two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent toqualify at the GS-04. For example, an applicant who has 9 semester hoursof graduate level education (i.e. 50% of graduate education required) and 6months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the requiredexperience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position
