The Small Group Underwriter I is responsible for assisting Underwriters with analysis and reports to support underwriting decisions. Primary duties to include, but are not limited to:

• Enforces corporate rating policies and formulae for small group business to ensure corporate profitability goals are met.
• Performs functions associated with underwriting business to ensure rates are produced accurately and in a timely manner.
• Develops a working relationship with other company departments to understand their impact on Underwriting workflow and Underwriting effects upon other departments.
• Applies standard underwriting principles and procedures under general direction to evaluate contracts.
• Makes recommendations for less complex cases that are reviewed by more senior underwriters.
• Responsible for monthly Small Group Renewal Summaries.
• Responsible for validating new business submissions against proposals.

Job Requirements

• Requires a high school diploma; 1-2 years related experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
• BA/BS degree preferred.
• Requires strong written and oral communication skills.
• Requires excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
• Proven ability to exercise good judgement.
• The work environment is often stressful with tight deadlines for customers and there are frequent interruptions. Quick responses are expected and accuracy is extremely critical.
