DEPARTMENT:   Finance

 

REPORTS TO: V. P. of Finance & Admin.

 

CLASSIFICATION: Full time, Exempt

About the Opportunity:
The Controller directs the financial affairs of the organization and prepares financial analyses of operations, including interim and final financial statements with supporting schedules, for the guidance of management, including both internal and external users. The Controller is responsible for the company’s financial plans and policies, maintaining its accounting practices, internal controls, relationships with banking, lending and investment institutions, maintenance of its fiscal records, and the preparation of financial reports. The position involves supervision over general accounting, property, insurance, budgetary controls, internal and external audits. The position assists in the development and monitoring of annual budgets, cash management, contracts and other business affairs.

 

The Controller supervises the AP/Payroll Specialist and Accountant, and works in close collaboration with other Museum managers.

Job Requirements

About the Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field.

• CPA or CMA preferred

• Minimum of 3 years experience in management of accounting and financial reporting

• Minimum of 3 years experience in internal controls

• Demonstrated knowledge of accrual, fund accounting, financial reporting and activity-based costing

• Demonstrated ability to develop and monitor internal controls and accounting systems

• Familiarity with Sarbanes-Oxley compliance

• Strong skills in computers, general ledger software, spreadsheets and other personal computer-based applications. Advanced knowledge of electronic general ledger software; experience with Great Plains preferred.

• Excellent writing, interpersonal, organizational and analytical skills

• Excellent team skills, both as participant and leader

• Ability to prioritize, focus and project manage

• 3 or more years supervisory experience

• Familiarity with non-profits and/or culture sector is preferred

• Affinity with the mission of the Minnesota Childrens Museum
