Director of Engineering - Fuzing and Warhead Plymouth MN

Position Overview:
ATKs Fuzing and Warhead business is seeking a Director of Engineering who will be located at the Plymouth, MN facility. Reporting to the Vice President of the Fuzing and Warhead Market Segment, the Director of Engineering will be responsible for establishing the strategic goals and objectives for all aspects of the engineering functions to support business objectives. The role will ensure all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with the organizations established policies and procedures; will leads major projects, programs or processes with significant business impact involving cross-functional teams.
Success in this role will reflect extensive experience and judgment in order to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coach and develop staff by providing an environment that encourages ongoing professional growth.Ensure staff receives the appropriate training and skill development opportunities to be successful in their roles. Oversee staff of about 50 engineers.
- Take lead responsibility for significant engineering issues. Develop plans to resolve issues, communicate the plan, and advise Senior Management on progress.
- Partner with the Chief Engineer to optimize process changes; recommend use of technologies and processes to ensure alignment of operations initiatives.
- Act as a resource to the department staff by providing guidance, interpretation, training and key input regarding operating procedures and processes.
- Partner with Business Development in defining the strategic direction of the business. Provide resources for proposals. Establish strategic goals and objectives and maintain responsibility for the engineering programs and objectives.
- Manage the engineering department budget
- Maintain interface with the divisional engineering staff at ABL location
- Perform other duties as assigned. Roles and responsibilities can often be expanded to accommodate changing business conditions.
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Engineering or related technical discipline; Masters degree is preferred
- Minimum of ten (10) years experience working as a hands-on Engineer
- Minimum of additional five (5) years management experience including management of highly complex engineering teams and projects
- Strong preference for DOD experience specifically in fuzing and warheads
- Self-driven with a strong ability to motivate, delegate and multi-task assignments, with emphasis on establishing and enforcing high standards.
- Proven organizational and leadership abilities; problem solving skills; conflict management skills; ability to listen and formulate plans for resolution.
- Ability to work effectively in an environment where tact, sensitivity, respect, tenacity, persuasive ability, and decisiveness are required for success. Excellent relationship building and collaboration skills.
- Proven ability to build strong customer relationships with programmatic and technical counterparts.
- Must have proven multi-tasking skills and the ability to work under pressure
- Ability to manage complex projects and resources (people, costs, time).
- Experience managing department budgets
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to make presentations to Executive management and demonstrate fact-based decision making skills
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access. Ability to understand and work with multiple enterprise-wide systems.
- Demonstrated process / product improvement experience (Lean & Six Sigma).
- Familiarity with Quality Standards such as AS9100 and CMMI
- Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship as a pre-requisite
