Job Description
The Extrusion Technical Leader (ETL) has deep, relevant technical experience, strong project leadership skills, and the ability to represent the technology with business partners, customers, and the scientific community. This position is responsible for the ownership of our extrusion technologies across multiple materials inclusive of improving our current technologies and supporting the development of new extrusion technology and materials to support our Enterprises growth needs. The role will be a blend of driving new innovation and technology by providing subject matter expertise around Extrusion as well as supporting the commercialization of new extrusion applications of our current technology and materials. Candidates must possess the ability to balance executing against clear project opportunities concurrent with exploring and discovering new opportunities to advance both multiple extrusion and material technologies and current and future applications of these extrusion technologies. The ETL needs to possess deep knowledge of all aspects of the extrusion process: equipment, tool design, material properties, processing techniques, quality assurance, etc. This individual needs to be able to interface directly with our internal extrusion customers, R&D, and external licensees of our technology. While the ETL will have several direct reports, this position is a hands-on senior technical role; not a managerial position. The leader will create business growth and competitive market advantage through the advancement of our material technology and be the Andersen Corporations subject matter expert in the extrusion technology.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Leads the advancement of our extrusion technologies to address gaps in our current materials and processes as well as identifies and supports activities to develop the next generation of materials and extrusion processes.
In partnership with R&D, develops processes and test plans to validate and approve material replacements and new material development activities.
Identifies opportunities to drive our material and extrusion technology to create a competitive advantage in the marketplace. Creates the strategies and leads projects to manage and grow the technology in concert with meeting business needs inside and outside the enterprise.
Owns the process definition; inclusive of the specifications for extrusion equipment and tooling. Continues to refine and grow our various technology ownership tools.
Conducts research into the feasibility, design, operation and performance of the processes, materials and machinery related to the extrusion processes for both internal and external customers across both new and existing applications of the technology and material.
Assists in the development and commercialization of new extrusion tools, equipment, and secondary operations. Supports process engineers within the various extrusion plants that are utilizing continuous improvement tools aimed at improving overall plant efficiencies
Help coach and mentor less senior engineers and technicians
Job Requirements
- BS Engineering degree: Chemical or Mechanical desired
- 5-7 years plus of experience in profile and/or sheet extrusion preferably
- Proficient in Six Sigma, Lean, Ideation, problem solving methodologies
- Very extensive and deep knowledge of the extrusion technology.
- Background in polymer science or possession of a strong working knowledge of polymers
- Experienced in all aspects of the extrusion process; equipment, tooling, and process development
- Strong project management skills
- Strong communication and influencing skills
- Basic knowledge of intellectual property processes for development, implementing and defending the life cycle of Enterprise intellectual property
- Ability to mentor and coach engineers and technicians
