Supervisor, Engineering Change Management & Standards (20130251) at Bloomington

Job Description


MAJOR FUNCTION:

Responsible for the supervision of all aspects of engineering change management and engineering standards. Leads company-wide improvement efforts for Engineering (i.e. standardization, SAP, PIM, MRP, etc). Directs the work of Document Control Supervisor, Standards Engineer, and Documentation Specialists.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provides direction and support for the engineering change management and engineering standards groups. Builds teamwork throughout group and engineering teams.
• Maintains overall responsibility of the engineering standards group. Oversees the development of engineering standards with the help of a Standards Engineer.
• With engineering management, develops, implements and administrates guidelines, policies and procedures to ensure efficient control of engineering documentation and bills of material.
• Work with the PIM Team to implement company-wide engineering document change processes. This entails leading cross functional team meetings, influencing within and across divisions, excellent and detailed communication across a broad audience.
• Develop, manage and monitor departmental financial plans to assure the necessary resources are available for the execution and completion of tasks as required in a cost-effective manner.
• Formulate and maintain the staffing plans of the department through the selection, appraisal and motivation of employees.
• Provides SAP expertise and leadership to The Toro Company’s Engineering teams. Develops, reviews, and revises engineering SAP procedures as required to maintain accurate bills of material and information flow to the rest of the organization.
• Assures “service only" part support is given, including research of parts required, documentation and release along with providing a liaison with the parts department. Assures that “service only" parts are released and documented in a timely manner with all information and SAP work completed so that parts department can create independent demand.
• Responsible for the development and maintenance of the corporate COGS parts standardization classification system and the development of additional classes of parts on a yearly basis.
• Develops and tracks department metrics on, product releases, engineering change management and part number standardization (reduction) goals.
• Supervises immediate staff, performs timely reviews and performance appraisals.
• Communicate with engineering management concerning problems or progress, recommending changes or alternate actions as required.
• Provide other engineering systems support as required.
• Performs other duties as required.


JOB DIMENSIONS:

• Responsible for planning, developing, managing engineering documentation, and data needs within lead-time requirements specified by the end user customer of that data.
• Has responsibility for the engineering change management and standards budget.
• Directly and indirectly manages engineering change management and standards staff.
• Must exercise excellent interpersonal judgment and objectivity when negotiating requirements and resolving issues.
• Must be able to manage a larger staff and accept additional responsibilities as special projects arise which can include but are not limited to acquisitions, standard changes, legal requests, and training.

Job Requirements


• BS degree in Engineering or Business Management; or technical degree with equivalent on the job experience. Should have 4 to 6 years of engineering experience and one year supervisory experience desirable. Must be familiar with engineering documentation and change control, bills of material and MRP systems. SAP knowledge is preferred. Ability to work and influence cross-divisionally.
