Production Manager at Chaska

We are seeking a Production Manager for our Chaska headquarters location.  This position is to optimize the profitability, quality, and customer service of selected product lines.  Also responsible for managing all aspects of a multi-shift manufacturing organization of coils, cores, assemblies (this includes providing leadership for support teams such as Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, Planning, and Continuous Improvement/Lean Team).

Employees are expected to support the quality concepts inherent in the business philosophies of Lake Region Medical, including a variety of job related tasks which may not be specific to this position profile.

Accountabilities Include:

Match manufacturing capabilities to sales requirements to service all customers with on-time deliveries, desirable lead-times, high quality, and competitive prices.
  • Ensure annual operating plan is properly translated into manufacturing resource (people, equipment, and space) needs.
  • Ensure annual budgets for all departments include the appropriate resources.
  • Ensure that the proper manufacturing strategy and objectives are in place.
Achieve economical production of products to maintain or improve profits.
  • Measure and monitor division statistics and performance to ensure favorable trends and results are being achieved.
  • Identify problems and implement corrective and preventative actions in a timely manner to maintain and improve quality control and to prevent losses (follow process and prevent scrap).
  • Establish the right climate and provide the right incentives to maintain a highly productive and motivated workforce.
  • Continue to investigate and implement creative ways to train, motivate, and retrain work force, to improve productivity.
  • Practice a walk-around management style to foster communications and identify issues.
Identify and plan for future resource needs to sustain growth and favorable profit margins.
  • Provide annual budgets, monitor expenses, and justify purchases.
  • Monitor actual cost to standard and ensure corrective action is taken when necessary to achieve favorable cost variances.
Maintain a competent staff to ensure that expected results are achieved.
  • Coach direct reports to keep them on track.
  • Ensure that management and supervision weaknesses are corrected in a timely manner.
  • Provide necessary and relevant educational opportunities.
  • Demonstrate leadership and earn an excellent reputation among customers.
Coordinate Engineering, Quality, Production, and Technical staff to guarantee technical performance.
  • Develop processes and charting to allow review and prioritization of areas for continuous improvement.
  • Insist upon timely development of tooling, processes, programs, and set-ups to improve quality and process efficiencies.
  • Promote a high degree of cooperation between Engineering, Quality, and Production so they work as a team to solve problems.
Achieve the highest levels of product and process quality within the business, meeting or exceeding both internal and external customer expectations.  Assume that Operations has the ultimate responsibility for product quality.
  • Ensure proactive response to all customer complaints, whether internally or externally generated, by seeking root cause for problems and correcting them at the source.
  • Establish, implement, and maintain a process of continuous improvement that is focused on the quality of the products and the processes within the business using well established proven techniques.
  • Ensure open communication and cooperation with Engineering and Quality Assurance for the rapid recommendation and implementation of design changes necessary to correct problems or improve the products and processes.
  • Train and direct staff members in a manner that ensures that all processes and procedures are followed, that the highlest levels of quality and workmanship are used in the construction and assembly of our products, and that in-process quality inspection is everyones job.
  • Apply continuous improvement concepts to identify and eliminate non-value added tasks.

Job Requirements

Four year Business related BS degree with a cumulative of five to ten or more years of well-rounded production management experience.  Exposure to Engineering, Quality Assurance, Production, Materials, JIT/Lean Techniques, and Maintenance functions is required.
Hands-on, knowledgeable manager with proven track record of process control and improvements, scheduling optimization, and productivity enhancement.
Management experience and abilities to determine priorities, achieve results, appropriately influence decisions, generate respect among peers, and succeed when given general direction and guidelines.
Skills to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing.
Extensive experience in scheduling, planning, and quality control functions in a high volume production environment.
Experienced, results-oriented manager, knowledgeable with proven track record of implementation of JIT/Lean manufacturing concepts and continuous improvement methods.
Promote injury prevention and manage the "finger on pulse" along with Production Supervisors when dealing with Safety/Nurse in the event that an injury occurs, in a professional manner.
