We are DFA-the premium provider of market opportunities for farmers and a value-added supplier of innovative dairy products and food components for customers around the world.Ensures compliance with all applicable federal and state environmental & safety regulations and ensures necessary records are maintained and prepared according to established guidelines. Keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. Implements and maintains company safety and environmental manuals adhering to local, state and federal regulations. Conducts required environmental test, analysis and observations and evaluates results and makes recommendations as necessary for maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies. Ensures compliance with training requirements that all employees are trained on safety & environmental policies, procedures and regulations.Job Duties and Responsibilities: Confers with management and employees regarding environmental & safety issues and needs, performs safety assessments, and develops and recommends programs and activities to establish and maintain broad-based safety program. Audits facility to maintain compliance, identify areas for improvement, insure all employees are following standards, and find resolutions for corrective actions. Ensure that all areas needing attention are addressed as soon as possible. Conducts safety orientation, educational instruction and in-service programs and assesses participants as to performance and competence levels. Administers directives to assure compliance with environmental & safety requirements in updating, training and records of Environmental standards, policies, procedures, programs and services in accordance with regulations. Investigates all work related injuries, illnesses and incidents and reviews the injury/illness reports to ensure all factors have been identified and documented correctly. Confirm that the appropriate corrective actions are recommended and implemented to prevent reoccurrence of similar injuries or collisions. Ensure that Managers, Team Leaders and Line Leads are trained in workplace safety and are familiar with the safety and environmental hazards to which employees under their immediate direction or control may be exposed, as well as applicable laws, regulations and company safety rules and policies. Lead the safety committee to meet on a bi-monthly basis and act as chairperson of that committee. Follow up on the status of safety recommendations submitted by the safety committee. Person responsible for managing the sites MSDS program by maintaining the MSDS binders as well as the 3E on demand system current. Participates with Safety and Environmental Corporate representatives during formal inspections of plant. Issues reports to the monitoring agency to formally document corrective action taken. Coordinates the removal of physical and chemical hazards. Stay abreast of potential legislation, which may affect operations. Attends relevant seminars and meetings to ensure ongoing preparedness on topics related to Environmental and Safety. Function as an engaged team member and contribute to the sites continuous improvement efforts. Point person responsible for pursing a VPP initiative with OSHA. Responsible for managing all the sites environmental permits to include knowing parameters within permits, managing necessary testing for permit compliance and proactively securing permit extensions. Required Education and Experience: Bachelors degree in Safety Management or related field or equivalent in experience 4+ years experience in the Safety field or in a related areaRequired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Clear communications, mathematical, technical reading, statistical data collection and application methods, computer skills (word, excel, charts). Organized, relationship building, ability to present professional presentations. Effective human relations skills, including good listening ability and the capability to convince others to establish or change precedents. Knowledge of federal, state and city environmental and safety standards, policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships at all organizational levels, and with the public. Strong record keeping skills, leadership, analytical and critical thinking skills, a high degree of initiative, maturity, integrity, and good judgment.
