Job Description

The Tax Senior will be responsible for effectively and efficiently supporting income tax compliance functions including all income tax compliance matters such as accounting for income taxes and the filing of all income tax returns and payments. Ensure well-controlled and efficient processes as well as appropriate communication with both internal and external stakeholders regarding tax compliance-related activities.

• The financial reporting aspect of the position entails the calculation of the consolidated tax provision and evaluation of the related balance sheet accounts. It also includes preparation and/or review of the tax disclosures included in S.E.C. filings and other published financial statements, and disclosures.
• Research, analyze and respond to inquiries on the tax impact of various TCF and subsidiaries strategic or structural changes. Where necessary, to coordinate and monitor outside consultants research and/or special projects.
• The compliance aspect of the position entails the preparation of various federal, foreign, state and local tax returns, including the consolidated federal, state and local tax returns, including the consolidated federal return and preparation of review of various internal accounting records used for the annual report and tax returns. Also includes the timely preparation of estimated and extension payments.
• Timely and accurately prepare, review and report deferred taxes, tax provisions, and tax-related disclosures for required external reporting (i.e., 10-Q, 10-K).
• Effectively use and manage the tax compliance software and internally developed systems and processes.
• Ensure that processes in all areas of responsibility are adequately and effectively controlled and that effective change management is in place.
• Participate in significant projects affecting tax compliance to assure successful implementation of new or changed processes or finance applications.

Job Requirements

The successful candidate for this position will have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Bachelors degree in Accounting or related business degree is required.
• 3 -5 years previous experience with a combination of Big Four public accounting firm and/or large corporation tax departments is required. Applicants with a Masters degree in taxation, or a JD with significant business and accounting background, or CPA certificationwould be preferred. Previous experience in a financial services industry would also be preferred.
• Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Solid project management and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in research and writing skills.
• Proficiency with various software programs (i.e., Microsoft Excel).
• Adaptive learner; able to grasp new concepts quickly.
• Ability to multi-task effectively.
• Detail-oriented and possess a sense of urgency.
