Toolmaker/EDM Specialist

Mold Craft has been designing and building successful, high volume, single and multi-cavity, multi-mold projects for small intricate plastic and metal injection molded parts since 1964. Our molds have been designed and fabricated to produce parts for drug delivery, surgical devices, body implants, and dental products as well as consumer products and telecommunication connectors for well-known manufacturers allowing automation and reduced cycle times for their molding processes.
Our Opportunity
We are seeking a Toolmaker/EDM Specialist with traditional Toolmaker skills to assemble molds, adjust stack heights, finish grind molding components and perform EDM; responsible for programming, logistics, and communication for Sinker EDM. Coordinate Agie Hyperspark HS EDM machine along with others to keep projects running smoothly and efficiently. Maintain equipment and communicate with Toolmakers, Design Engineers and Polishers to clarify and fulfill job requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Obtain blueprints from Design Engineering department or Toolmakers
- Inspect edm work against print dimensions via micrometers, scopes, CMM, gauge pins, drop indicators, and/or sine angles. Make adjustments as needed
- Perform programming for EDM
- Inspect electrodes to ensure all requirements are met
- Determine length of run, set up machines, and operate equipment to maximize efficiency
- Work with Toolmakers and CNC Leads to determine best strategies to achieve efficient operation
- Work with Polishing to establish tolerances; when dimensions are EDM correct, send components to Polisher
- Send completed EDM work to Toolmaking, Polishing, or customer as required
- Perform maintenance on equipment; change filters, lubricate, and clean for positive customer image
- Read, interpret prints, and correct any errors before EDMing steel
- Communicate with CNC Mill Programming to prepare for upcoming projects
- Inspect steel after rough mill and send to Heat Treat
- Assist with Laser engraving various types of steel with identification, serial numbers, steel types, dates, etc.
- Perform minor polishing and recast removal from EDM process as needed
- Work to improve Sinker EDM processes and procedures to directly enhance efficiency, accuracy, quality, speed, and company profits
- Operate machines to achieve the highest capacity without loss of product or damage to equipment
- Assist Toolmaking when available
- Assist with grinding graphite, and Erowa holders as needed
- Wear safety equipment as necessary and appropriate for the job
- Certify dimensions per customer requirements when appropriate
- Perform other tasks as requested by management
Key Requirements:
- Two-year degree in Mold-making, EDM, machine tool technology, or related field
- Three to five years of experience in programming EDM and operating EDM sinker
- Proficient at reading blueprints (on paper and on computer)
- Strong skills in geometry, trigonometry, and performing math calculations
- Able to hold tight tolerances (.0002) per design specs
- Excellent mechanical abilities; able to utilize equipment and identify / resolve problems in order to improve speed and efficiency of equipment
- Communicates effectively with management, employees, and customers
- Shows high standards and personal pride in work with a passion for precision and perfection
- Sense of urgency to meet aggressive deadlines
- Works best in a team-focused, dynamic, and fast-paced work environment
- Applies sound judgment and creative problem-solving skills to complex problems and business challenges
