QA Supervisor at Rochester

Job Description



Maintain and coordinate activities in Microbiology, Inoculation and Cultures functional testing laboratories. Performance of aseptic microbiological techniques and training of other staff in said techniques. Perform and interpret QC microbiological test results and make recommendations for improvement. Maintain inventory control systems for intermediate and finished good products. Ensure that laboratory procedures and practices are carried out as defined in the SQF 2000 System at Kerry, Rochester, MN. Perform internal SQF auditing and act as contact during external SQF audits. Responsible for document control of SQF documents.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Has full knowledge of relevant procedures for and provides oversight of all Inoculation laboratory activities: scheduling, propagation, development, and isolation. 2. Maintains and propagates on site culture collection and offsite back-up storage. 3. Has full knowledge of relevant procedures for and provides oversight of Cultures functional testing laboratory. 4. Has full knowledge of relevant procedures for and provides oversight of QC microbiology laboratory. 5. Provides blend recipes for freeze dried culture products to production. 6. Performs, interprets and evaluates QC test results and makes recommendations. 7. Directs microbiological identification of isolated contaminants from production processes. Develops plans for troubleshooting fermentation contamination investigations. 8. Performs quarterly internal SQF auditing. 9. Maintains and provides training for use of databases housing site-specific procedures and work instructions. 10. Acts as a site liaison to external SQF auditors. 11. Gives input and assists in the development of QC procedures, policies, and philosophy. 12. Ensures that products and QC practices are in compliance with Kerry policies and local, state, and federal regulations. 13. Provides input on relevant QC issues. 14. Promotes and works in a team environment. Is an active participant in all QC activities. 15. Enforces and supports GMP policies. 16. Maintains skills and knowledge base in QC methods. Maintains knowledge of relevant microbiological methodologies.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelors degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Biology or related fields.

Experience: 2-5 years experience in a Microbiology or QC lab setting is desired. Auditor training.

Skills: Knowledge in QC laboratory methodologies and quality systems is required. Knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices is required. Knowledge of HACCP is required. Must be computer literate. Incumbent must have excellent interpersonal skills, including both verbal and written communication and the ability to lead and work in interdepartmental teams. The work is self-directed and requires the ability to work without close, direct supervision utilizing good organizational techniques.
