Master Designer - Engineering at Eden Prairie

Job Description

Eaton Corporation has an opening for a Master Designer located at the Hydraulics Headquarters in Eden Prairie, MN. Key responsibilities of this role are as follows:

Applies technical knowledge on the total design configuration for new products and/or major modifications for existing products in accordance with the established design standard, procedures and methodology used at the Hydraulics Division.
Responsible for making original designs of the total assembly and related detail component parts for new and/or existing products, in accordance with the instructions provided by the cognizant Product Engineer.
Define the parts specifications for proper fit, finishes, material selection and material condition.
Create original and complete layouts for the overall product design, assuring proper fit of all of its component parts
Perform dimensional tolerance stack calculations, based on minimum/maximum material conditions, as well as statistical tolerancing.
Maintain close communication with the manufacturing function, to keep abreast of the manufacturing processes that is intended, or used to manufacture the parts being designed.
Maintain communication with the quality assurance function, to obtain statistical process control (SPC) feedback about the actual manufacturability of the component parts, when they are being machined on the shop floor.
Suggest changes in design, in the event the design specifications are in conflict with the manufacturing methods, or are in excess of machine capabilities

Participate in design reviews with the manufacturing and marketing functions as scheduled by the cognizant Product Engineer, to assure completeness of definitions for all related design matters.
Assist, when requested by supervisor, to reduce the work load in other areas of the Design Section such as parts detailing, ECN work, checking work of others or other routines.
When assigned by the supervisor, this individual may be assigned to be the lead individual of a design team, overseeing the work of the team members, in addition to acting as the Engineering Change Board (ECB) coordinator for one of the product lines manufactured by the Hydraulics Division.

Job Requirements

Basic Qualifications:
High School diploma required, in addition to a minimum two (2) years of education, specializing in product design.
Minimum four (4) years of experience in drafting within a design technology environment
Proficiency in CAD design with Pro/E Wildfire for complex components and large assemblies
Legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship
Relocation is not included with this position.

Preferred Qualification:
Experience in making original designs of the total assembly and related detail component parts for new and/or existing products based on instruction from internal or external customers.
Experience in creating engineering drawing packages per industry standard and experience in manifold circuit design
Basic knowledge of algebra, trigonometry, (3-D) geometry, metallurgy, strength of materials, geometric tolerance, statistics, SPC methods.
Have an intimate knowledge of the manufacturing processes used on the assigned product lines.
Although not required, mastering one or more computer languages may prove beneficial in the execution of duties.
Experience in the design of rotating machinery or mechanical design.
Be proficient in the use of networked CAD terminals and related software/protocols. These include but are not limited to, Pro Engineer and AutoCAD.
Should have a basic understanding of hydraulic circuit schematics.
The incumbent is a design expert for the assigned product family
Good organization, written and verbal communication skills.
Understanding of drawing release/change processes.
Experience working with global teams.
